Draeger Issues Respirator User Notice for Certain SCBAs

A faulty component is interfering with the start-up of a small number of self-contained breathing apparatuses manufactured by Draeger Safety UK Ltd., the company announced in a user notice distributed by the NIOSH National Personal Protective Technology Laboratory (NPPTL). The affected component is the Sentinel 7000 electronic control unit, or ECU, manufactured from July to October 2024 and with the serial numbers BRTH, BRTJ, BRTK, and BRTL.

The Sentinel 7000 ECU is used in Draeger PSS 5000 and PSS 7000 series SCBAs. The fault intermittently disrupts activation of the ECU and results in a clicking sound.

“Once the SCBA completes its self-check and powers up successfully, the fault does not reoccur during normal operation; the fault is fail-safe,” the notice states. “The affected component does not impact the breathing circuit of the SCBA.”

According to Draeger, local service technicians can apply a firmware update to correct the problem. For more information, read Draeger’s user notice (PDF).

Respirator user notices are collected on the NPPTL website.
